Christmas arrives at Merseyrail with calendar of festive activities across the network

The festivities have well and truly begun on Merseyrail with Father Christmas and carol singers appearing up and down the network this December.

Father Christmas gift competition

On Monday Father Christmas delivered a special gift to Liverpool Central’s Mtogo store flanked by security, signalling the launch of a special competition across three stations.

Mystery gifts will be situated at Mtogo stores in Liverpool Central, Liverpool South Parkway and Southport stations. Passengers must guess what the gift is to be in with a chance of winning ÂŁ200 worth of high street vouchers.

The competition will run December from 2 to 23  and passengers can enter by filling out a form in one of the three stations.

Father Christmas checking tickets

Father Christmas will be leaving his reindeer at home and travelling by Merseyrail trains on 7 and 8 December from 11:00 to 13:00, checking tickets and wishing all of our customers a very merry Christmas.

Carol choirs

Furthermore, carol singers will be performing your favourite Christmas songs at the following stations:

  • Liverpool Central
    • December 3 10:00-12:00 and 19:00-20:00
    • December 5 19:00 onwards
    • December 8, 19 & 20  times TBC
  • Hamilton Square
    •  December 5 & 19 17:00 onwards
  • Southport
    • December 22 throughout the day

Free Costa hot drinks

Merseyrail passengers will be able to enjoy a free Costa hot drink on Sunday 8 and Sunday 15 December at participating Costas across the network.

 

Great value and enhanced services

To add to the festive cheer across the Liverpool City Region, Merseyrail passengers will be able to enjoy late night and Boxing Day trains.

With return tickets from just ÂŁ2.10 and Day Savers available to purchase online, Merseyrail is the perfect way to get around this Christmas.

The rail operator will be running a special service between 9:00am and 7:00pm on Boxing Day, calling at selected stations across the network.

There will also be late night trains on the two weekends before Christmas, helping passengers get home from festive events across the city.

Liverpool City Region Enterprise Hub partner with InvestSefton to support local business start ups

Entrepreneurs in Sefton are to benefit from the growth of the City Region’s Enterprise Hub.

Enterprise Hub, which works in partnership with the borough’s enterprise, business support and inward investment service Invest Sefton, recently announced their continued support to people starting or growing a business.

Enterprise Hub coordinates and simplifies the business start-up and growth support available across the Liverpool City Region by bringing together partners to deliver business support, advice and training.

Since launching in December 2015, Enterprise Hub support has helped to create over 1,060 new businesses so far.

Thousands of budding and early-stage entrepreneurs have benefited from the programme over the last four years, with nearly 6,000 individuals registering for support.

InvestSefton works closely with Enterprise Hub and have referred over 150 people thinking of starting a business. Kris Swift, InvestSefton’s Business Development Manager, said: “We have a great working relationship with the Enterprise Hub and have jointly organised a range of events aimed at stimulating interest in starting a business and we look forward to developing this further under the new phase.”

 

 

 

Southport law firm expands operations

A Southport solicitors is optimistic about creating new employment in the borough after expanding its operations.

Napthens Solicitors has moved to larger premises in the town, following a period of growth.

The business is moving from its original Hoghton Street offices to a larger site on the same street, after trebling its turnover since February 2016.

Shru Morris, Napthens CEO, said: “Following significant growth, the time was right to make this important investment into our future in the area.  Building on our success, we have a real opportunity for further expansion as we continue to strengthen relationships within the local business community and welcome new clients. We expect to recruit more staff as demand grows.”

Police crack down on criminality in Sefton

Police cracking down on criminality in Sefton are taking part in a day of activity today (Wednesday 25 September.

Operation Vermont uses officers from across the force to focus on community issues. Today this is supporting the ongoing work of Operation Target – our ongoing work to tackle serious and violent crime on Merseyside.

Officers from across the force, including targeted teams, roads policing officers and community officers, gathered at King’s Gardens off Stanley Road in Bootle at 8am before heading out into Bootle, Litherland, Seaforth, Netherton, Formby and Southport. Mounted officers will also be deployed throughout the day.

They have executed five search warrants, and are carrying out open land searches, roadside operations and high visibility patrols across South Sefton to disrupt criminal activity and bring people to justice.

Chief Inspector Matt Moscrop said: “This is an intelligence-led operation aiming to detect criminal activity in Sefton, and deter criminals from engaging in behaviour that harms their community.

“In recent weeks and months, the community in South Sefton have experienced a number of violent incidents which have included the use of firearms and knives.

“Operation Target is aimed at cracking down on this type of serious and violent crime, but we know from speaking to people in the heart of our communities that other types of criminality such as drug dealing, burglary and antisocial behaviour have a huge impact on the quality of their lives.

“The activity we are carrying out today is aimed at letting all those people who want to commit criminal acts and make other people’s lives a misery that they are not above the law. We are out carrying out warrants, searching the areas they may store knives, guns and drugs, and stopping vehicles.

“I hope law abiding members of the public feel reassured that we are out and about and visible in their communities.

“We are concentrating our resources in Sefton today, but this type of activity is happening all year round across Merseyside and I want to reassure people that we work both visibly and behind the scenes with partner agencies to gather intelligence and educate people on the dangers of gun and knife crime.

“We have carried out similar days of action in other parts of Merseyside and are already hearing from offenders we have arrested that many are choosing not to carry knives because they know there is a greater risk that they will be caught.

“This is extremely encouraging but we will not be complacent, and will continue to put uniformed and plain clothed to disrupt anyone prepared to risk the safety of others and themselves by carrying a weapon.

“I would encourage anyone who has information about criminality in their neighbourhoods to contact us so that we may take positive action and make the streets of Merseyside safe and enjoyable places for people to live, work and visit.”

Business expert set to take up residency in The Atkinson to help drive local business growth

An Enterprise Hub business expert is set to take up a weekly residency at Southport Library, in The Atkinson, to help Sefton residents start and grow their new businesses.

This fully-funded business support is aimed at helping those in the Sefton area who are looking to start a business, or those who are looking to grow a new business which is under three years old.

Enterprise Hub is Liverpool City Region’s “one front door” access point for business support, offering clients a programme of 1-2-1 business support and advice, as well as access to training courses, to help develop their ideas and learn core business skills.

Enterprise expert Jacqueline Daley will be offering a number of 1-2-1 appointments every Thursday between 10am – 12pm at Southport Library in the iconic Atkinson building. Appointments should be pre-booked by those wishing to register onto the Enterprise Hub programme.

This support will help clients understand the process of starting or growing a business and to research and develop a business plan or growth strategy. Budding entrepreneurs will also be able to learn key skills to develop a sales and marketing strategy, as well as understanding the everyday practicalities of running a business and looking at ways of accessing finance.

The new outreach appointments will mean those with a business idea can receive support on their doorstep, without having to travel to Enterprise Hub’s Liverpool City Centre base.

Jackie Williams, Enterprise Hub Project Manager and Enterprise Director at Liverpool social enterprise The Women’s Organisation, says: “We’re delighted to be bringing Enterprise Hub straight to the Sefton community at Southport Library to give local people that all-important helping hand and confidence boost to pursue or develop a business dream.

“We would highly encourage anyone who is either sat on an idea they’d like to explore or has a new business that is ready to grow, to get in touch and see how we can help. The community here is always brimming with entrepreneurial spirit and ideas, so we’re excited to see what is in store!”

Vicki Rutland, at The Atkinson, says: “We are delighted to welcome the expertise of Enterprise Hub into The Atkinson and hope this new partnership will be of immense benefit to the residents of Sefton.”

The support and training is available fully-funded under the Enterprise Hub programme, which is receiving funding from the European Regional Development Fund.

Eligibility criteria does apply and Enterprise Hub support is available to men and women living in the Liverpool City Region, who have not yet registered with Companies House or HMRC, or any business under three years old in the Liverpool City Region.
