Get ready at the double for Sefton’s latest duathlon

Fitness fanatics are being encouraged to get ready at the double ahead of the 2019 Active Workforce duathlon.

Taking place once again at Litherland Sports Park next week (Wednesday October 2) the fun duathlon will consist of a 1.5k run, followed by a 5k cycle and a further 1.5k run to the finish.

Places are still available to take part and competitors over the age of 16 from across the region are welcome, with entries priced at ÂŁ10 for Active Workforce members and ÂŁ15 for the public.

Changing rooms, showers and lockers will be available and water and refreshments will be provided after the race. There will also be limited bike hire, please inform Active Workforce if you’ll need a bike upon registration.

Cllr Ian Moncur, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: “Each year the Active Workforce duathlon proves to be an incredibly popular sporting event

“This is a great opportunity to try a different sort of challenge that you might not have tried before and participants can run or walk at their own pace.”

Sefton performers wanted to support Borough Of Culture

Sefton Council is looking for bands, musicians and performers to take part in a special event later this year to launch the Sefton Borough Of Culture celebrations.

Sefton will be named Liverpool City Region’s Borough of Culture in 2020 and a number of launch events are being planned to celebrate everything Sefton has to offer.

As part of this, a special event will be held in Crosby on Friday, November 8 and organisers are appealing for local performers, musicians and bands to take part.

While final details of the event are yet to be announced, those who are interested in finding out more should email Kerry.pavey@sefton.gov.uk.

We are appealing for information to help find a Crosby teenager who has been missing from home since last week.

15-year-old Toby Penny from Lower Hey was last seen on Tuesday 17 September and we are becoming increasingly concerned about his wellbeing.

Toby is white, 5ft 6in tall, of slim build, with short brown hair and blue eyes. He is believed to be wearing dark combat trousers, dark Nike tariners and a maroon zip fleece. Toby owns a maroon red mountain bike with white spokes.

He is known in Kirkby, Kirkdale, Anfield, Liverpool City Centre and Preston in Lancashire.

Man arrested after firearms discharge in Bootle

A man has been arrested following a firearms discharge in Bootle last night (Saturday 21 September 2019).

Shortly after 9.10pm, officers were called to Markfield Road to reports that damage consistent with a firearms discharge had been caused to the window of a house. Officers attended and later found the exterior wall of another house had also been damaged.

House to house, forensic and CCTV enquiries are continuing and community policing officers have been in the area to speak to local residents and offer reassurance.

An investigation was launched to establish the exact circumstances and a 23-year-old man from Knowsley Village has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a Class B drug (cannabis) with intent to supply.

Detective Inspector Andy McCourt said: “We want to trace a male on a bicycle who we believe was the intended target of this shooting.

“He is described as white, aged between 14-17, with long dark hair and what is described as a chubby face.

“It is believed this male sustained injuries, possibly as a result of falling off his bike in Malvern Road.

“We would ask that this person comes forward and speaks to us. I would also ask parents, who may have a child matching the description who returned home with injuries on Saturday night, to contact the police.”

Tickets are on sale for two nights of entertainment organised by the Mayor of Sefton, Cllr June Burns, with all proceeds going to the Mayor’s Charities.

 

The Mayor of Sefton’s Motown Night takes place Fri Nov 15, 7.30pm at Maghull Town Hall.

Enjoy music from a live band playing all of your favourite Motown classics.

Celebrate the New Year with a taste of the highlands at the Mayor of Sefton’s Charity Burns Night.
