Sefton Council launches Domestic Abuse public consultation

Sefton Council, on behalf of Sefton’s Domestic Abuse Partnership Board, is in the process of completing a Domestic Abuse Needs Assessment to understand the needs of people who experience domestic abuse in Sefton.

The outcomes of the needs assessment will inform future service delivery and help target resources more effectively.

As part of this work, Sefton Council has launched a consultation survey to understand the needs of people who have experienced domestic abuse in Sefton.

Community Domestic Abuse Survey

The survey is a chance for people to tell us about their own experiences and about any services they may have used. This includes understanding any impact that the COVID-19 pandemic may have had on the delivery of services.

The survey can also be completed on behalf of other people, if you know someone who has experienced domestic abuse and tried to help them.

Cllr Trish Hardy, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, said: “As a Council, we want to make clear that there is no excuse for abuse and that we are completely committed to the elimination of domestic abuse from our society.

“We urge our residents to take part in the survey to ensure we have a full picture of the current services across Sefton and the needs of survivors and children to inform future planning.”

The survey can be found online at yourseftonyoursay.sefton.gov.uk and will close on 4 March 2022.

Council tax energy rebate update

Earlier this month, the Government announced support to help households with rising energy bills including a one-off ÂŁ150 energy rebate payment to council tax payers in bands A-D.

Direct Debit

Although the Government has not yet issued detailed guidance for the scheme, The Council understands that eligible households in bands A to D that pay their council tax by Direct Debit may receive their payments first, directly into their bank accounts.

Anyone who doesn’t pay their Council Tax by Direct Debit you can sign up for a Direct Debit here. You will need your council tax account reference to hand.

Paperless e-billing

Council Tax payers in Sefton can opt to receive their bill electronically, which is easier plus it saves paper.

When the Government’s full guidance for the Council tax energy rebate scheme is released, the Council will be providing an update here and on its website at www.sefton.gov.uk/council-tax.

Pop-up vaccine clinic returns to Bootle Cricket Club on Mondays 21st and 28th February

Success

Following the success of pop-up clinics over the festive period where more than 400 vaccinations were given, the site is reopening temporarily for two days later in February.

South Sefton residents aged 18 or over can simply turn up during opening hours to get their first, second or booster jab, with no appointment needed.

The COVID-19 vaccination site will be open at Firwood Bootle Cricket Club, Wadham Road, Bootle, L20 2DD, on the following dates:

  • Monday 21 February – 10am to 4pm
  • Monday 28 February – 10am to 4pm

Easier

Dr Pete Chamberlain, local GP and chair at NHS South Sefton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), said: “NHS teams in Sefton continue to work hard to make sure everyone can access their COVID-19 vaccine, whether it is their first, second, or booster dose.

“This pop-up site will make it easier than ever for people to come along and get vaccinated.

“It’s not too late to get your first jab, while second jabs and booster doses greatly reduce the risk of serious illness from COVID-19, so please come along if you are eligible.”

Immunity

Margaret Jones, Sefton Council’s director of public health said recently: “We are not fully vaccinated unless we have had two jabs and a booster, even if we have recently had COVID-19.

“Vaccination doesn’t mean we can’t catch the virus or be re-infected but if we do, we have stronger immunity and will be far less likely to be seriously ill.”

Residents are being advised to plan ahead for their journey to the vaccination site, as parking is limited at the cricket club and is restricted on nearby roads.

Coastal Contamination in Sefton

An oil release offshore means small tar balls may wash up on the Sefton coastline in the coming days and weeks.

A Sefton Council spokesperson said: “We have been made aware of a limited quantity of hydrocarbons (oil) being released off off the North Wales coast.

“Owing to currents and weather forecasts in the next 24 hours, we may see deposits, in the form of ‘tar balls’ washing up on our coastline as a result of this incident.

“We would also stress that removal of this waste should only be carried out by professionals, and we ask that members of the public do not attempt to remove any ‘tar ball’ deposits.

“While this type of incident is rare, Sefton Council and its partner agencies have robust plans in place to ensure any contamination or disruption to our coastline is minimal.

“We will be supporting ENI UK Limited’s clean up teams in the coming weeks to remove any potential contamination.

“Posters have been erected along our coastline to inform visitors to our beach of this issue and we would ask that dogs are kept supervised at all times.

“If you come across these deposits, in the first instance please call 0151 934 2961 to report this to the Rangers at Green Sefton.”

Sefton’s SME leaders urged to sign up for Digital Growth Programme to maximise performance and growth

Sefton SME business leaders now have the opportunity to join the City Region Digital Growth Peer Network to discover how technology can have a positive impact on their company’s performance and growth.

Starting on Thursday 10th March, the free programme is for City Region SME business leaders who do not have a technical background but do have a responsibility for driving technology innovation within their organisation.

Knowledge, clarity and understanding

It is designed to help participants gain knowledge, clarity and understanding around five key business issues where technology can influence board level attitudes for change, security and stability of technology, data analytics and reporting accessibility, customer experience, and attracting and retaining talent.

Places on the programme are strictly limited to 15, and one person per company, so Sefton Council is urging local business leaders to sign up now by visiting www.aabyss.uk/sme-digital-growth-peer-network. The application process takes less than two minutes.

Focused

Run by Liverpool-based independent IT Consultancy, Aabyss, the programme consists of five, 90-minute in-person learning sessions over six months. Through focused learning and peer-to-peer support, the programme will provide participants with the tools and support to understand the impact and direction technology has on your business now and how to identify areas for positive change.

Signing up for the City Region Digital Growth Peer Network also provides a free optional one-to-one consultancy and action planning session and free membership to the Digital Growth Alumni events.

Specialist advice

Sefton Council Leader Cllr Ian Maher, who is also Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Portfoilio holder for Digital Connectivity & Inclusion said: “This is a great opportunity for some of Sefton’s small and medium employers to ensure they are making the most of technology to drive and expand their business through specialist advice and learning from their peers.

“The Network will mean they can hear the latest thinking of thought leaders, have access to learning materials and the ability to set up action planning meetings with industry experts or other community members.

“There are only 15 places available on the Programme’s first cohort so I would urge Sefton business leaders who want to develop a strong plan for digital growth to sign up now.”

The free City Region Digital Growth Peer Network is funded by independent IT Consultancy, Aabyss. As a privately funded initiative it has no restrictions attached to it.
