A brand new toolkit has launched part of the Year of the Volunteer– packed with information about local volunteer opportunities and creative ideas for fundraising events and activities!

This pack has been produced by Volunteer Centre Sefton, who help individuals and groups with volunteering across the borough.

One of the all-time favourite Strictly pro dancers  bids you farewell…

BBC Strictly Come Dancing’s all-time favourite professional, Robin Windsor, has decided to hang up his dancing shoes, after a long and successful career and he plans to go out with a bang!

Come and say goodbye to Robin on his last tour at The Atkinson on Thursday 15 November.

Robin, who was part of the hit TV show for five years, and whose celebrity partners included Patsy Kensit, Anita Dobson, Lisa Riley, and Deborah Meaden, is excited to create a show that will be action packed and energetic to match his personality!

Robin is no stranger to touring, having been involved in many shows over the years including Burn the Floor, on Broadway and the West End, Puttin’ on the Ritz, Keep Dancing, and most recently Dance to the Music, with former Strictly Come Dancing professional Kristina Rihanoff.

However, Windsor feels that now is the right time to concentrate on other things. One of which is visiting dance schools around the country, teaching people to dance because he says “Dancing is what makes people happy! My aim is to get the entire country up and dancing!”

 THE ALL FUN FAREWELL TOUR takes the popular dancer across the country, 29 shows over five weeks, and Robin says it will be “full of fun, cheeky chat, plenty of sparkles, and superb dancing!”

Sefton secures ÂŁ2.3 million for major highway improvement project in Maghull

Sefton Council is delighted to have secured ÂŁ2.3 million for a major highway improvement project in Maghull.

The proposed scheme will allow for reduced congestion and improved safety at the A59 Northway junction with Dover Road and Liverpool Road South.

Funding for the project, which is anticipated to begin in 2019, has been allocated by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and reinforces Sefton’s ongoing commitment to supporting infrastructure and growth across the borough.

Cllr John Fairclough, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Locality Services, said: “We are delighted to have secured City Region Combined Authority funding for this scheme.

“Sefton is wholly committed to to improving transport infrastructure in the Maghull area and this project will be another step forward, following on from the new Maghull North Station and the M58 Junction 1 improvements due to start later this year.

“We hope that the works, once approved, will start in Summer 2019 and last around six months, with as little disruption as possible to traffic.”

Further details about the project will be announced in due course.

Have your say on the government’s Clean Air Strategy

The UK government is making changes to its approach to tackling air pollution and has launched a consultation to find out what the public thinks about its plans.

This is a great opportunity for Sefton residents to input their views on how they feel air pollution is being tackled at a national level.

The government’s draft Clean Air Strategy 2018 sets out actions to improve air quality by reducing pollution from a wide range of sources. The consultation will be open until August 14 and would like to collate views on the actions being proposed to reduce air pollution and its effects, and to hear whether the public has any further suggestions.

The consultation will cover each of the main themes of the strategy document: understanding the problem; protecting the nation’s health; protecting the environment; securing clean growth and innovation; reducing emissions from transport; reducing emissions from farming; reducing emissions from industry; and leadership. The consultation also asks for views on the strategy as a whole.

If you’re interested in providing feedback you can find out more about the Clean Air Strategy and how you can submit your response by visiting https://consult.defra.gov.uk/environmental-quality/clean-air-strategy-consultation/. The deadline for feedback is August 14.

Sefton Council will also be facilitating an engagement event on Monday August 6  at Waterloo Community Centre that will allow residents to come together to help form a joint response to the national consultation. This event will not cover the strategy in its entirety but instead will focus on two key themes; understanding the problem; and protecting the nations health.

There will also be an opportunity at the event to find out more about what Sefton Council is doing at a local level to improve air quality, as well as finding out about what more can be done by individuals to make a difference.

Sterrix Lane undergoes carriageway maintenance works

Sterrix Lane, Litherland will be temporarily close over two weeks to undergo essential carriageway maintenance works.

The stretch of carriageway, between Gorsey Lane and Boundary Road will be temporarily closed for two weeks from July 25.

Access will be maintained for residents and emergency vehicles at all times.

Residents are asked however to make adequate alternative provisions for deliveries, as site health and safety rules will only allow access when it is safe to do so.

The works will be signposted accordingly and a signed diversion route will be in place for the duration of the works to minimise any disruption.
