Merseyside Police is appealing for witnesses following a collision involving a scrambler bike and a pedestrian in Litherland this evening (Tuesday 19 December).

Officers were called at 5.10pm following reports a black and white scrambler bike had collided with a pedestrian on Gorsey Lane, near its junction with Pendle Drive, before crashing into barriers. The rider of the bike left the scene on foot and is reported to have ran into a nearby housing estate. It is believed he was wearing a blue helmet.

The pedestrian, a 62-year-old man, has been taken to hospital and is being treated for leg, arm and back injuries. His condition is described as serious.

An investigation is currently underway and part of Gorsey Lane has been temporarily closed.

The scrambler bike will be recovered from the scene and forensically examined.

Detective Inspector Simon Vaughan said: “Our inquiries into this incident are at an early stage but we believe the scrambler bike was being ridden in a dangerous and anti-social way prior to the collision.

“This incident again illustrates the risk that scrambler bike riders pose to other road users and pedestrians. These people have no regard for anyone but themselves and don’t care about the consequences of their actions.

“If you saw this bike being ridden in anti-social manner on Gorsey Lane shortly before this incident, or witnessed the incident itself, please come forward. We would also appeal to anyone who may have dashcam footage or CCTV footage of any part of this incident, before, during and after to get in touch.

“We will continue to take pro-active action against those involved in the criminal use of scrambler bikes on our roads and will do everything possible to locate and seize suspected stolen or nuisance bikes and arrest those who are putting the safety of others at risk.

“I would like to take this opportunity to reassure communities across Merseyside that we understand their concerns about scrambler bikes and are relentless in our efforts to tackle them.

“Such behaviour cannot and will not be tolerated on the streets of Merseyside. I would urge anyone with information which could help us take these bikes out of circulation and make our streets safer to keep coming forward.”

Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) are appealing for information after an suspected arson in a Bootle park on Saturday, 9 December.

At around 5.20pm, MFRS were called to a fire in Derby Park on Fernhill Road, Bootle. A seating area, a noticeboard and a park layout produced by Christchurch Primary School in Bootle were set alight by persons unknown causing significant damage. No injuries were caused and the fire was extinguished.

Local Policing Sergeant Kate Young said: “This type of behaviour is completely unacceptable and clearly dangerous. We will act on all information provided to identify those responsible.

“All members of our community should feel they can visit our green spaces without fear or intimidation, so please let us know if you saw anything suspicious in the park on Saturday which may assist.”

MFRS Arson Coordinator Graham Morgan said: “This fire caused a considerable amount of damage to notice boards and a seating area in Derby Park, an area well-used by the local community.

“Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service is committed to tackling incidents of suspected arson and is working closely with officers from Merseyside Police to investigate the incident.”

Merseyside Police is appealing for information following a reported assault in Southport last night (Monday, 4 December).

A call was received at around 9.45pm that a group of youths had attacked a man in his 30s outside Asda on Derby Road, leaving him with leg and facial injuries.

The number of offenders is unknown however they were described as both male and female.

The youths dispersed across London Road and the victim was taken to hospital for further treatment. CCTV enquiries are on-going.

Local Policing Inspector Graham Fisher said: “This was a shocking attack outside a busy supermarket close to a main road. Anyone with any information is urged to contact the police.

“I’m sure people living in the area will be disgusted by this incident so I would appeal for them to help us bring the offenders to justice.
