Six Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) in Merseyside and Cheshire are currently working together to review more than 100 local NHS policies and treatments to ensure that they have the best possible outcomes for patients, are in line with the latest clinical guidance and are making the best of the limited NHS resources available.

CCGs in Halton, Liverpool, Southport and Formby, South Sefton, St Helens and Warrington are currently

reviewing treatments and procedures relating to:

  • Continuous glucose monitoring systems
  • Cough assist devices
  • Insulin pumps
  • Secondary care peripheral steroid joint injections
  • Surgery for Prostatism or lower urinary tract infection
  • Transanal irrigation

We are looking to understand the views and experiences of individuals/families who have received or are currently receiving one or more of the above treatments.  Clinicians, providers and community groups with an interest in the above treatments or policy changes, are also encouraged to share their views in the survey.

We are also informing patients about updates to Botulinum Toxin A & B treatments to bring them in line with NICE guidance and the Pan Mersey Area Prescribing Committee (APC).

The survey will be available online https://nhs.researchfeedback.net/s.asp?k=155652839910 which will take about 15 minutes to complete. The survey closes on 7 July 2019.

Detectives appeal for information following a serious assault in Southport

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault following an incident in Southport last night which has left a 51-year-old man in a critical condition.

At about 10.40pm officers on patrol spotted a disturbance on Lord Street and saw a man lying on the floor. When they got out of the patrol car the officers discovered the man was unconscious.

It turned out that the victim and his two sons had been to a pub nearby to watch the Champions League Final and were on their way home when they were attacked by a group of men near to the Scarisbrick Hotel.

The 51-year-old victim, who comes from Bulgaria, is believed to have been knocked to the floor and assaulted. One of his sons, aged 28 years from Southport, was also assaulted and suffered facial injuries.

Both men were taken to Aintree Hospital for treatment.

The father’s condition is described as critical.

Crime scene investigators have carried out forensic examinations at the scene and officers have carried out extensive inquiries locally. CCTV footage will also be examined in a bid to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Detectives are also looking at the possibility that this assault may be linked to another assault at the Potting Shed bar and restaurant on Lord Street shortly before this incident. A 32-year-old male was assaulted outside the restaurant. He suffered facial injuries and was taken to hospital where he was treated.

Detective Inspector Gary Stratton, said: “Our investigation into this incident continues and we remain very keen to speak to anyone with any information that could assist our enquiries.

“This was a vicious attack on a father and his two sons as they were making their way home after watching the Champions League final in a local pub. The investigation is in its early stages and at this time detectives are trying to ascertain the motive for the attack.

“Southport was busy on Saturday night as a result of the football and I would urge anyone who was in the Lord Street area, near to the Scarisbrick Hotel, who witnessed the incident and has yet to come forward, or who has any mobile phone footage to get in touch.

“I would also ask those who may have been driving it the area at the time to please check and send in any dashcam footage. You may have captured the incident, or people making off from the scene and your footage could prove vital.

“A number of people also spoke to officers who were first at the scene of this assault, but they didn’t leave their details. I would ask them to come forward as they could have crucial information.

“A 51-year-old man has been left in a critical condition and we are committed to bringing those responsible to justice. The arrested male, who is from the Southport area, was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class A drug, is in police custody, where he is being interviewed by detectives.

Entry deadline approaching for The Educate Awards 2019

Calling all Sefton schools and colleges! The entry deadline for this year’s Educate Awards is fast approaching, with entries closing at midnight on Sunday 23 June.

The awards, in association with Copyrite Systems and Ricoh, is open to all government funded and independent private educational establishments, including primary, secondary, further education providers and special needs schools in the Liverpool City Region, Cheshire, Lancashire and Greater Manchester.

Founded by Kim O’Brien in 2012, it is the largest education awards in the North West and celebrates every aspect of the school’s curriculum, teaching and staff.

From inspiring teachers, superb support staff to innovative projects across the curriculum, the awards recognises the work of schools and colleges which are delivering outstanding education and helping students achieve their full potential.

In total there are 21 award categories, from Teacher of the Year, Career Aspiration, School Support Star of the Year and Outstanding Commitment to Sport.

The awards are free to enter and schools can submit entries for as many categories as they like.

This year, a new category has been launched which recognises schools’ commitment to mental wellbeing. The Mental Health & Wellbeing Award will be awarded to a school with a strong commitment to promoting social and emotional wellbeing, mental health and wellness.

Merseyrail launches 15-minute Sunday service between Southport and Liverpool for summer

Merseyrail has announced that it is introducing its Sunday 15-minute summer service between Southport and Liverpool this year.

Beginning this Sunday (26 May), services will become more frequent with trains every 15 minutes, rather than every 30, to match those running throughout the week until 22 September.

These regular services will run all day, and between 10am and 11pm on Sundays, with regular 30-minute trains running outside these times, giving passengers a great opportunity to make the most of the bank holiday weekend.

Merseyrail passengers will be able to make the most of the longer evenings, sunny days and array of destinations and outdoor spaces along the line, with the rail operator taking them right to wherever they want to be with 68 stations across the network.

Passengers can take advantage of the Merseyrail Day Saver, which is a great value way of making as many journeys as they like throughout the day for as little as ÂŁ2 for 5-18 year-olds and ÂŁ4 for adults.

This ticket is valid off-peak (after 09:30 on weekdays), anytime on weekends and bank holidays, making Merseyrail the perfect way to get around this summer.

Families can also enjoy a day out with Merseyrail’s Family Ticket offering unlimited off-peak travel throughout the day for just £11 for a family of five.

Paul Bowen, Deputy Managing Director of Merseyrail, said: “We have reintroduced our summer 15-minute service on our Northern Line this year to provide a quality service for our passengers during the warmer months, when we see a greater demand for services on the Southport line.

New Friendship Cafe launching in Southport

A Friendship Cafe sponsored by Southport Salvation Army is set to launch on Sunday, 7 July at The Salvation Army Coffee Lounge in Southport.

This is a perfect opportunity during Sefton’s Year of Friendship to meet up with old friends and make new friends.

Following the launch, the cafe will take place every Sunday from 1pm to 3pm and is completely free of charge.

The cafe aims to provide a warm, welcoming and relaxed environment for anyone looking for a bit of company, a cuppa and a bite to eat.
