As energy prices soar and the cost of living crisis worsens, the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority has launched Solar Together, a group-buying scheme for solar panels and battery storage.Â
This innovative scheme aims to help home-owners to buy solar panels and battery storage at lower prices, helping them to cut their energy costs while also reducing their carbon emissions. There is also an option to have electric vehicle charging points fitted.Â

Cllr Trish Hardy, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Housing said:Â
“With their gas and electricity bills set to rocket and inflation rising to the highest rate in 40 years, households across Sefton will be looking at ways to reduce their bills.Â
“This scheme is a good step in helping more residents achieve that through environmentally friendly means.”Â
Solar Together Liverpool City Region (www.solartogether.co.uk/lcr ) will help Sefton’s homeowners feel confident that they are paying the right price for a high-quality installation from pre-approved installers. The scheme is also open to small and medium-sized enterprises and places of worship.Â
The project builds on four years of highly successful Solar Together programmes run across the UK. To date Solar Together has delivered over 7,000 installations and over 130,000 tonnes of avoided lifetime carbon emissions.  Â
Sefton residents can now join the group-buying scheme which offers solar panels with optional battery storage and Electric Vehicle charging points. There is also retrofit battery storage for residents who have already invested in solar panels and are looking to get more from the renewable energy they generate as well as increase their independence from the grid. Â
It is free to register and there is no obligation to go ahead with an installation. The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority is working in partnership with Sefton Council to make the transition to clean energy as cost effective and hassle-free as possible.Â

The World Reimagined is a national initiative to transform how we understand the Transatlantic Trade in Enslaved Africans and its impact on all of us.
As well as the main installation a community learning globe has been placed in the foyer of Southport’s Atkinson theatre. This has been co-produced by Christ the King School in Southport working with the Southport Against Racism community group.  Significant individuals important to both global and local history, including civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. and Liverpool football player Mo Salah will be featured on the community learning globe.

In July 2019 Sefton Council declared a Climate Emergency. It was then agreed that the Council resolves to reduce operational emissions to net zero by 2030. This new consultation will enable the Council to understand better the needs of Sefton residents, business owners, organisations and investors, as it makes further decisions on tackling climate change.
Cllr Paulette Lappin, Chair of Member Reference Group on Climate Emergency said “Climate change affects everyone, and we are already seeing the impacts on our beautiful borough. It is vital to hear the views of the public so we can work together to reduce our carbon emissions. This consultation is for everyone, and can help define our future.”
The Council’s Affordable Warmth team, in partnership with Sefton OPERA are holding two free events in September. The first will take place at Bootle Cricket Club on Monday 12th September from 10.30am to 3:30pm. The second event will be taking place at The Atkinson Centre in Southport, Monday 31st October, from 10.30am to 3:30pm.
Sefton Council recognises many households will struggle to pay their bills this winter due to the cost of living crisis. Autumn’s expected rise to £3,554 will leave average household bills 80 per cent higher going into the colder months when energy use soars. Many vulnerable people will be hit hard, including older people and those in ill-health, living in energy inefficient homes that are difficult and expensive to heat.
As well as the main installation at Marine Gardens, there will be a community learning globe located in the foyer of Southport’s Atkinson theatre. This has been co-produced by Christ the King School in Southport working with the Southport Against Racism community group.  Significant individuals important to both global and local history, including civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. and Liverpool football player Mo Salah will be featured on the community learning globe.
