Sefton Council employee Macy scoops prestigious apprenticeship award

A Sefton Council apprentice was a part of the winning team for the Local Government Apprentice of the Year 2022. Macy Loasby, a Security Services apprentice for Sefton Arc, was one of nine team members to win the prestigious award. In doing so, she became part of just the second group to win the accolade.

The event, run by the East of England Local Government Association and South West Councils, saw more than 100 apprentices compete in a number of challenges. This year’s event, which was held virtually, allowed participants to showcase their skills, teamwork and expertise.

Among those was Macy, who joined Sefton Council as a level 2 apprentice two years ago. She was one of just two people to gain an apprenticeship role within the council in February 2020 during a recruitment process aimed at care experienced young people. Since then, she has gone on to start her level 3 apprenticeship and gained a permanent role within the council.

The apprentices took part in tasks on day one of the event, which spanned across the 25th and 26th May. Those activities focused on workplace behaviour and the apprenticeship standards. Each participant then received personal feedback.

On the second day, following a Q&A session with Apprenticeship and Skills Minister Alex Burghart, the entries were judged and awards were given out.

Councillor Paulette Lappin, the Cabinet Member for Regulatory, Compliance and Corporate Services said: “Congratulations to Macy for winning this award. It is a real pleasure to see a representative of our council excelling at a national competition. Apprentices are a vital part of Sefton Council and their contributions and hard work help us to deliver the crucial services that improve the lives of our residents.”
