BBC Radio 2 play-listed Jo Harman, to play The Atkinson

Jo HarmanFresh from being BBC Radio 2 play-listed, international touring and recording artist Jo Harman is playing The Atkinson on Friday 16 June.

She brings her own style of Soul, Blues, Gospel and Beatles-worthy pop to her new album that is rooted in the classic, timeless music of past generations

Jo is currently play-listed on RTE 1  and throughout Europe with ‘When We Were Young’ the first single, featuring soul legend Michael McDonald’s, from Jo’s new studio album recorded in Nashville, ‘People We Become’.

The album has been described by esteemed critics as ‘an instant classic’.

Jo, who won ‘Best Female Vocalist’ at the 2014 British Blues Awards says “I’m not trying to fit in anywhere. I’m just trying to write classic songs, and present them with classic production. When you try to chase what’s going on at the moment, then it’s going to sound old very quickly.”

Jo has played around 100 festivals since setting out some 5 years ago – many as a headliner – across a number of countries. In 2013,  Jo was one of only 12 (otherwise household name) artists to play ParkPop in The Hague – one of Europe’s largest festivals – to 300,000 people. In 2015, she was one of Bluesfest’s headline acts alongside Tom Jones, Van Morrison and Tedeschi Trucks at the O2 in London. She has been doing her own headline tours for the last 4 years – flagship shows include Jazz Cafe (London), Paradiso (Amsterdam) and travels for the first time to New York in March 2017 to play her debut show at Joe’s Pub (Rolling Stone’s top 10 venues in America).

In 2013 her ‘Do-It-Yourself’ debut album ‘Dirt On My Tongue’ was released to much critical acclaim (making a number of ‘best of’ lists around the globe) and was subsequently licensed to major label V2 (Adele, Mumfords etc) in Europe where it made the Dutch album charts, following mainstream TV and radio appearances.

Amnesty International invited Jo to be one of a handful of artists to appear at Amnesty’s ‘Ambassador of Conscience’ Awards in Berlin in 2015. There she performed for, and with, the award winner Joan Baez (also Patti Smith). Jo continues to work alongside Amnesty in the fight for human rights.
